Our
Story

MacStrong was founded in 2014 with a mission to empower Tamariki by equipping them with the tools, resources, and support needed to shape their futures. Over the years, MacStrong has expanded its offerings, providing youth in our communities with opportunities to reach their full potential and explore new aspects of life. Through a variety of activities and pro-social environments, our programs focus on building essential skills, emotional regulation, communication, life skills, and career/trade skills. Our primary goal is to boost young individuals' self-esteem and sense of purpose, which we believe will have a positive ripple effect on their families, cultures, and communities. Our dedicated team of life skills coaches and mentors work closely with at-risk and vulnerable young people, fostering strong relationships and delivering tailored programs, including activities like diving, fishing, and practical skills development. We serve young people aged 6 to 18, often in community settings, and our programs are designed to achieve specific outcomes, such as fostering positive relationships between young people and local law enforcement. While we have a Kaupapa Māori approach, our services are open to all cultures, emphasizing the importance of self-respect, property care, and respect for others through activities like mountain biking, touch tournaments, and fitness. At MacStrong, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of young people, their families, and our communities.

Mentoring and Life Skills Coaching

At MacStrong, we are strong believers in the ability of our rangatahi to succeed. Our programs and activities are designed to help our rangatahi reach their goals and fulfill their highest potential. We aim to produce positive outcomes for the children involved, their whanau and the communities they live in. We are proud of all our rangatahi, and love watching them grow into bright-minded and confident individuals.

Our rangtahi life skills coaches and mentors instil core values during their sessions and embed these with our rangatahi to be taken back in their day to day lives.

Each session will be tailored to suit each child and will be done in collaboration with the child and their support network to identify their interests, needs and goals in order to provide them with opportunities for new experiences.

Our sessions will include a variety of experienced based activities that can include,  to life skills (e.g. cooking), fishing, surfing, diving, tramps, gym/fitness, horse treks, work experience, day trips, skiing/snowboarding, beauty and hair, gardening and community/ volunteer work.

At MacStrong we encourage our older Rangatahi to engage in learning life skills, education and gaining work experience. Our collaborative approach with other organisations and educational institutions allow us to transition our rangatahi into education and employment while still having a someone to guide and help them.
